America's Oldest City
St. Augustine, the Nation's Oldest City was founded by the Spanish in 1565 as the first European establishment in North America. Since that date, the city has been under three governments; Spain, Britain and the United States.
In the late 1800's the city was the furthest southern point accessible by railroad, and was reborn as a resort town for the wealthy by the co-founder of Standard Oil - Henry Flagler. Mr. Flagler built and acquired three hotels in the city, in use today as Flagler College, the Lightner Museum and Casa Monica Hotel.
The Castillo de San Marco, built by the Spanish in 1672 to protect the bayfront, stands as a national monument. The current St. Augustine Lighthouse was built in 1874 and remains one of the highest lookout points in the city. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is one of the largest open to the public and features many species of animals.

Today St. Augustine is renown for its rich history and many attractions surrounded by natural resources--the water, fishing, ocean and beaches--and modern amenities such golf courses, shopping and close proximity to the World Golf Hall of Fame, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville Int. Airport, Daytona Beach and Orlando.
